Free lecture-demo on fruit trees set Tuesday at Parks & Wildlife

Section Editor: Zac B. Sarian

People interested in exotic fruits are invited to attend a free lecture and demonstration on rambutan, durian and other high-value fruits next Tuesday, September 11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino Parks & Wildlife along North Avenue, Quezon City.

To give the free lecture and demonstration will be Bernie Dizon who has converted a portion of the park with very hard adobe soil into a fruit garden planted to rambutan, durian, mangosteen, Magallanes pummelo, lanzones and others. The rambutan trees are now in fruit and attendees will have a chance to taste the fruit of the superior variety.

Dizon will discuss how he improved the poor soil and make the trees grow under adverse conditions. His durian, apple macopa, pummelo and lanzones have been fruiting well in Quezon City. He will discuss techniques in taking care of fruit trees, including proper fertilization, pruning and provision of drainage. He will teach how to make fruits sweeter and juicier.

Planting materials of superior varieties will be available including longkong, duku, mangosteen, durian, rambutan, Magallanes pummelo, latexless jackfruit, Guimaras mango, Paniyur black pepper and others.
