For those interested in
planting high-value fruits in their home gardens or farms, there is a free
lecture and demonstration at the Ninoy Aquino Parks & Wildlife along
North Avenue in Quezon City today.
Bernie Dizon, the fruit expert, will discuss the proper ways of planting and managing fruit trees such as rambutan, durian, mangosteen, longkong, Magallanes pummelo, jackfruit and many others. He will also demonstrate the techniques of grafting as well as how to produce planting materials with double rootstock. Fruit trees with double rootstock grow faster are more sturdy against typhoons and have been observed to be more productive. They attain physiological maturity earlier than plants with single rootstock. There will be a session in the morning from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Another will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Visitors can come either in the morning or in the afternoon. There will also be a free tasting of rambutan harvested from the trees at the Parks & Wildlife. |
