Mulching Time

MULCHING TIME. Agriculture Secretary Edgardo J. Angara mulches his young mangosteen tree with rice straw as a measure to conserve soil moisture and keep the plant robust, especially during the dry season. The fruit trees, especially small ones, will die of stress if they are not provided with enough water during the summer months. If they survive, they will get stunded. Sec. Angara has planted plenty of mangosteen in his farm in Nasugbu, Batangas. Other fruit trees include jackfruit, mango (including the new Millennium Mango with big fruits), rambutan and others.
